Main drainage goes in

At last we feel we have actually started!  Simon from Winchcombe Reclamation arrived on site this morning to confirm they would start demolition of the old farmhouse on 16 Jan. Priority will be given to carefully reclaiming the old hand made bricks in the old part of the house (see below) as well as some elm floorboards and a large elm beam.

"Batman" Chris also confirmed he would arrive at 0900 hrs to check for bats as the tiles come off and, in the unlikely event of finding any, would transfer them (it?) safely to their new roost in the barn.

Yesterday we made a start improving the main drainage along the East boundary. The open ditch collects drainage from a large area but leaving it as it is would make it difficult to landscape the lower garden.

The solution is to lay large (and expensive) twin wall pipes the full length to carry natural drainage and flood water underground.  By the end of today all 8 pipes were in position awaiting backfill; it just remains to re-route the incoming water before planning the pond.
