Hemcrete walls

Friday we visited Lime Technology in Abingdon to discuss technical details for the hemcrete walls.

Hemcrete was the material used in the recent
Grand Designs low energy housing developing in Swindon
Tradical Hemcrete® is a truly revolutionary construction material that not only can deliver better than energy efficient, carbon neutral, and sustainable buildings, but does so in a way that satisfies the many related issues required for successful, cost-effective buildings – such as health, comfort, durability, versatility and buildability. Laid up directly onto panels on the inside of the timber frame, hemcrete will provide the new house with excellent insulation and allow the house to breathe.

bridging at the edge of the foundation slab
We now need to finalise the detail of the foundations which will take the form of a highly insulated passive slab using 300mm of ESP (expanded polystyrene) with special perimeter sections which minimise thermal bridging where the wall meets the concrete slab.

  1. So glad I am able to follow all your progress. Finally you are able to start on the physical work for your house, instead of concentrating on bats!
