Insulation arrives

Brick bashing continues but we need another 12 inches of hardcore to fill the foundations.

We brought in a JCB twin roller compactor yesterday to speed up the compaction process.  Whilst infilling with broken bricks is a tedious and laborious process it is recycling useable material and, at the same time, reducing the mountains of brick and concrete remaining after demolition of the old farmhouse.

At 0700 this morning a lorry load of quarry stone arrived followed soon after by a artic truck load of structural polystyrene (ESP) shipped over from Ireland on last night’s ferry.  Bringing in material from such a distance is not very “green” but the other options were Germany and Sweden. We have not been able to source ESP here in the UK.

The timber frame is now almost complete so we will need to pull out all the stops to try to complete the foundation ready for the polystyrene slab by the end of next week.
